I got a full-time job at a Texas charter school as a school librarian. I have to switch between two campuses. I had to resign for many reasons.
1. They gave me two weeks to catalog the books and get the libray up and running, when it wasn't up and running in the first place. The previous librarian didn't leave any work behind, so I had to start from scratch!!!!!!
2. They told me that I had to start teaching children how to use the library when it wasn't even usable!!!!!!!! The majority of these kids are from working class families, especially at one campus where the kids are really uncontrollable.
3. I asked for supplies to get the library up and running, and I HAVEN'T GOTTEN ANY OF THE THINGS I REQUESTED!!!!! I did request the Dewey Decimal Classification manual and I did receive that.
4. I got support from one of my supervisors. The other one said "The libray is not my responsibility" and "You need to learn classroom management." I'm not trained as a teacher. You just don't learn about classroom management overnight! The art teacher is having the same problems I am, so I know I'm not the only one.
At least I have three weeks left.
